My Story

From my roots in Trinidad to a life of adventure—uplifting others through beauty, travel, and the power of perseverance.

Chapter 1

I was born in Trinidad and moved to Connecticut at the age of 18 to pursue my education. College was a transformative time for me—not only did I earn my BSc in Accounting, but I also met the love of my life, Oswald (Ozzie). Upon graduation from college, I went to law school. After my first year in law school, we got married, beginning a beautiful journey together.

After law school, I joined Olin, where I spent 17 years working my way up from a Word Processor to an attorney. It was more than just a job—I loved the work, made lifelong friendships, and even found time for my love of basketball. With Ozzie as a basketball coach, he helped me perfect my backboard shot—who else would sweep the snow off the court during the winter months just so I could practice?

Chapter 2

While in Connecticut, I became a mother twice over. Tragically, our first child, Jessica, was born premature and passed away after being in the hospital for nine months.

My husband, my son Justin, and I later moved to Orlando for a year before settling in Tampa, where I welcomed my beautiful daughter, Ashleigh.

My professional journey continued in Florida, where I worked at Florida Power for 15 years, excelling in my field. We built our dream home in Tampa, and I then transitioned to working for Hillsborough County, dedicating another 16 years before retiring.

In 2017, after 35 years of marriage and 42 years together, I lost Ozzie to ALS. I lost my best friend and confidant. Picking up the pieces of my life wasn’t easy, but with the love and support of my children, friends, family, and pastor, I found my way forward.

Chapter 3

Retirement has been an incredible adventure. With my daughter and sometimes close friends, I have traveled the world, experiencing the beauty and history of Europe—France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Luxembourg, England, Wales, and Scotland. I have explored the vibrant cultures of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Indonesia. I’ve been captivated by the wonders of Africa, visiting South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Morocco. Being an island person at heart, I have also spent a lot of time in the Bahamas, St. Maarten, Barbados, Grenada, St. Vincent, Aruba, St. Croix, St. Thomas, and Puerto Rico.

My journey has been one of perseverance, love, and adventure. From my early days in Trinidad to my career, family, and travels, every experience has shaped who I am today. And I’m excited for what’s next!
